The Prince Sultan Water Specialist Event Participation Grant enables the participation of world-leading water scientists at conferences and as leaders of workshops and courses. It also enables distinguished water scientists from the developing world, and young researchers from all over the world, to attend conferences, seminars, workshops, and specialised courses.

“Pharmaceuticals and emerging contaminants in the environment: estimating environmental and public health risks using water-based epidemiology”

Event: 5th International Conference on Risk Assessment of Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (ICRAPHE 5). Anacapri, Italy. Partner Organisation: Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA)

Date: 20-25 June 2024

Barbara Kasprzyk-Hordern heads the Kasprzyk-Hordern Research Group at the University ofBath, which focuses on environmental chemistry and public health. Her principal research interests fall into the three interrelated research areas of environmental, analytical and water sciences. She has made major contributions to understanding chemical speciation of emerging and legacy pollutants in the environment, and in developing and evaluating new(not necessarily technology driven) solutions aimed at reducing environmental pollution levels. She is enaged in the development of early warning systems for environmental and public health assessment via water fingerprinting and wastewater-based epidemiology. She is also exploring the phenomenon of stereochemistry (especially enantiomerism) in the context of environmental fate and effects of emerging and legacy pollutants.
