Paola Verlicchi is currently an Associate Professor of Environmental and Sanitary Engineering at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, Italy and the Supervisor of the Environmental and Sanitary Research Group within the Department of Engineering. Her main research fields are the management and treatment of domestic and industrial wastewaters and reuse of reclaimed water. In recent years, she has devoted considerable attention to the occurrence and removal of persistent compounds (pharmaceuticals) in the water cycle (domestic and hospital effluents, treated effluent and surface water) and the assessment of the environmental risk due to their presence in the different aquatic environments as well as in sludge and sludge-amended soil.
