PSIPW Supports Participation at 6th International Conference on Risk Assessment of Pharmaceuticals in the Environment

The 6th International Conference on Risk Assessment of Pharmaceuticals in the Environment (ICRAPHE 6) was held in Aveiro, Portugal, from 20 to 21 October, 2025.

This event gathered 90 participants from 15 countries, featuring 3 plenary and 4 keynote lectures, 26 oral presentations, and 39 poster communications.

ICRAPHE 6 was a privileged forum where experts from diverse fields of research related to the presence of pharmaceuticals in the environment discussed the latest advances in this area. The addressed topics included i) analytical technologies that enable faster, easier, and more sensitive detection of pharmaceuticals in complex environmental matrices; ii) cost-effective and sustainable treatment and remediation strategies for contaminated environments; iii) studies on the effects of pharmaceuticals on non-target organisms, ranging from ecological consequences to comprehensive risk assessments.

PSIPW sponsored the three plenary speakers. They were:

Lucia De Marchi from the University of Pisa.

She spoke on: “Assessing the Environmental Impact of Veterinary Pharmaceuticals.”

Sibel A. Ozkan of Ankara University.

Here address was: “Advances and Challenges in Molecularly Imprinted Electrochemical Sensors for Environmental Applications.”

Rudolf Schneider from the Technical University of Munich

His topic was: “How can antibodies help us in the risk assessment of pharmaceuticals in the environment?”

PSIPW awarded three students with a Young Researcher Grant Grant to participate in ICRAPHE 6 They were:

Farah Elbarghathi of Ankara University

She participated with: “Nanomaterials-supported MIP-based electrochemical sensor for the determination of lenalidomide: Application to environmental matrices.”

Vanessa Maybruck from University of Colorado Boulder

She participated with: “Environmental quantification and fate of therapeutic modified oligonucleotides in mixed liquor suspended solids.”

Angelica Zizzamia from University of Basilicata, Italy

She participated with: “Removal of venlafaxine from water through carbon adsorbents produced from spent brewery grains.”
